Finished Prototype Adjustable Recoil Pad

Sun Jun 19, 2016 7:23 pm

Just finished work on my prototype adjustable recoil pad. Feels really great in the shoulder and is very positionable!! Learnt a lot from this one though and will make a few tweaks to streamline the design before I make the next one, until then, have some pics to gawk at :D

how do you plan to adjust the vertical oriantation on the fly? i had a problem with the std butt plate on my EV2. it required an allen key to undo the plate and slide it up/down a dovetail.

Interesting point there Gary, I never adjust mine on the fly so the thought hadn't really crossed my mind... however they are tapped with a standard thread so could quite easily swap the grub screw for a thumb screw etc. Something I will definitely look in to.

Very nice! Is that a shot blasted finish I see?
Curious to know the material and the weight. :)

Thumb screws ordered  since this is the prototype then theres no harm in a little experimentation while testing!!

And yes it was grit and then bead blasted, overall weight is around the 300g mark, but this is going on the back of a front heavy springer so its fine for me. The next one I make will be a much more streamlined design so I can hopefully shed a few grams :D

Just to be contrary I used to move my MEC FP down for standers!, have now reverted to simple (allbeit adjustable) old fashioned style pads... one less thing to fiddle with ;) & have yet to note any discernible difference aside from shaving around 350 grams of weight off.
Nice engineering work, it looks great.
