Rabbit meat-good or bad?

Wed Apr 08, 2015 6:53 pm

I read in a book years ago, if you lived only on rabbit meat you`d die of malnutrician! that there was no real goodness in their meat?
raising chickens or other birds was a far better source of meat/food with the bonus of eggs, BUT, they take a costly amount to feed properly & keep,
-rabbits keep themselves basicly, & should be used as a diet suppliment, so hunters, over to you who eat rabbit meat- we need to know!

On the analysis of different meats, rabbit comes in tops from a health perspective.

However, it can leach fat from your body if it is eaten on its own - not something any of us would do unless stranded on an island with nothing but rabbits on it. I bring my family up on a regular dose of rabbits and one of us is now an international level champion in martial arts. :)

stolen from the above link from raj :)

Below are my top seven interesting rabbit meat facts:

7.Rabbits haven been used for meat as far back as 1500BC

6. Rabbit is all white meat. This makes it great for certain diets.

5. France is the world’s biggest supplier and buyer of rabbit meat.

4. While feeding off its mother’s milk, a new born rabbit can double its weight in just 6 days.

3. It is common for rabbit meat to be used in special diets for the aged, for heart disease patients and weight loss.

2. Rabbit is in season all year, but is best to eat during the winter months because of natural fats that are built up.

1. If you where to eat nothing but rabbit you would die. This is due to the fact that rabbit lacks certain vitamins; this killed a lot of warreners! Don’t worry though, rabbit is perfectly safe to eat as long as it’s not all you eat.

this came up on QI once. the answer given was eating the rabbit meat alone gives not enough vitamins, need veg too.

Think I read about those guys who died from eating just rabbits, was it a survival thing where they were surrounded by rabbits but gradually got weaker till they all died from malnutrician because diet was not balanced.

I once died from eating solely rabbit meat so it must be true!

As luck may have it, I had a whopping ribeye with chips at my funeral so I lived to tell the tale ;)

It would take me about thirty years of a rabbit diet to reach my target weight of fifteen stones....
