decisions

Sun Mar 29, 2015 5:08 pm

I currently owm a s400 classic in 177 which I am happy with. I am looking for a smaller rifle for ratting and hidework. I was considering either the s200 or the Bsa Ulra se multi shot. I cannot decided on which one and whether to go for a 177 or 22. Your thoughts please. Thank you

I wouldn`t call my S200 a `small` rifle, I reckon you should look at that TDR thingy with the stock extension, right up your street that one!

.177 all the way as a general hunting calibre :D the .22 boys will be jumping up and down now  .177 is far more forgiving than .22

if its solely for rats, if it was me I would opt for the .22 (where is pouge he`ll be off on one now  )

Nothing a .22 sub-12 ft.lb rifle can kill that a .177 cant if you are hunting.
Nothing a .22 can shoot better than a .177 if you are shooting targets - esp. down range.
Nothing you can buy in .22 that you cant buy more off in .177 in pellets for the same cost.
Nothing you can sell in .22 (when you decide you don't need it) that you couldn't sell better in .177 ........ due to the above 3 reasons.

sticking with your OP, you stated you wanted something smaller? there are lots of physically small rifles out there, as this is the AAOC, I recommended the TDR, BUT, having seen lots of rifles converted to Bullpup designs, (& the fact I`ve a soft spot for the design) you could look at having a rifle you know & trust `pupped`
(ooh, just invented a new gun term, do I get a- erm, forget it!)

Folk could argue all day regarding a choice in caliber (and they do  ) but this is generally because .177 is misunderstood and seen as not as effective and "hard hitting" when hunting.

When I bought my S410 I walked into the shop to buy a .22, my mind was made up. After a nice long chat with the owner about why .177 is more suited for most things, I came out with a .177 and have never regretted my decision.

My next sub 12 rifle will also be .177 :)
