I would like to think that this forum stands for equality - racial, sexual, age, air-rifle brand, clothing, religion ... etc. etc.
You should try it, Bri. You might find yourself swapping wool for chamois .... and Assos cream smells way better than Organophosphate 8-)

ASSOS Chamois Crème makes long rides more enjoyable and comfortable, by reducing friction and preventing bacterial and fungal infections on your skin. Apply a thin layer of Chamois Crème to your skin and padded insert before you ride.

Please explain this Raj as i have a picture in my mind that needs erasing :o

I don't have to stick my hand in a pot of boiling water to know it's gonna burn me Raj, I'll not be erm, swapping wool for chamois, wool'll do for me (might just have invented another word there)

Right then ... Here is something I didn't realize till I got into road biking myself. You know all those folks you see on thin tyred fast bikes ... NONE of them wear any underwear. Underwear is an additional layer that gets wet with sweat and chafes, cuts off circulation when you are on the bike saddle for 3 or 4 hours at a time. So the way it is done is to wear the Lycra straight against your skin - at least for the bottom half of your body.
However, this is painful if all you have between your backside and the hard saddle is a sliver of Lycra. So cycling shorts are padded on the inside with a gel filled layer called the 'insert'. This is referred to as chamois because early inserts used to be made of chamois goat skin. Not so anymore. When we have a big ride coming up, we strip naked, apply the cream to our butt skin and the inside of the insert, slip it on and get pedaling. The Lycra and the insert move with you rather than against you ... This is the best way to minimize friction on long distance rides. :)
