Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:10 pm

Just had me a mess of Ostrich fillet!
Bloody fantastic! Dare I say better than fillet steak? Cooked two fillets for around five minutes (rare to medium) and t was sublime. Has a real hint of Pigeon to it, with a similar texture too. Will deffo be buying it again. :D

If you're looking for a nice healthy meat you can't go far wrong with ostrich but as nice as it is I've always found it a little bland compared to most game, if you're in trying the more exotic meats I would thoroughly recommend kangaroo, zebra llama and camel (although the latter are so lean you have to be careful not to burn it if you choose to barbie or grill it). Lidl occasionally have kangaroo and it's surprising the variety of meat a lot of the farmers markets now supply. Personally I find it a little disappointing that it is so easy for "joe public" to buy new and exciting flavours off the shelf from the other side of the world when pigeon, rabbit, hare, venison, partridge, pheasant etc are considered more of a niche market :x
The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool

I had a fake one the other day! They had tried to Emulate the real thing by making a reformed meat product using the Rhea end of other birds.
