Whilst I totally agree that in Westminster at the moment very few earn the wage they're are on let alone justify an increase I think there is an argument for significantly increasing the salary of MPs in return for a major culling of their numbers. If you look at the big city firms the CEO's typically earn way in excess of the PM let alone the bulk of MPs and as a result high flyers with any talent are going to aim for the higher paying CEO type jobs whereas the less talentented "wanabees" take the option of becoming an MP. If you had fewer MPs earning a higher salary (at a similar overall cost to the public purse) we may get a higher calibre of applicant to those posts (I know its probably wishful thinking but humour me if only briefly )

Haven't read the link but I think they deserve their 11% pay rise. I work for the NHS and they kindly gave me a 1% rise this year my first in the last 5 years. Bless them.
