Looks like the end of his right thumb is gone, or maybe just folded. If it's gone, I wonder if the owl took it. Or, could it be that he had a mishap with a TX or similar type springer.

Tis a thing of beauty. I always like to see them up and personal at the game fairs.
And to see them in flight then returning is awesome 8-)
