HFT 500 accuracy

Sun Oct 22, 2017 3:34 am

Need a little help here guys.
I've been shooting my FTP 900 for 4 years and loving it. This summer I unfortunately hurt my back and right shoulder. I'm looking for a lighter target rifle that I can use until my back is sorted out. The two choices I have are the AA FTP 500 and the Daystate Griffin (not the special edition) Can I expect a similar level of accuracy out of the HFT as I get from My FPT? I know the two Griffins that I've shot are very accurate.

The HFT 500 is $1000.00 less than the Griffin here in Canada.

Thanks in advance,

I have very little experience of the FTP900, but my HFT500 is capable of shooting very small, consistently placed groups indeed. It is as good as my Steyr, in fact as good as any gun I have ever tried. As far as I know, the FTP900 and HFT500 use the same barrel, and both have a consistent mechanism so potentially their performance should be much the same. The HFT500 is not regulated, of course, but personally I don't think that is a disadvantage - I get about a hundred shots in a 10 fps spread with an SD of about 3 from both the HFT500 and the Steyr.

The only thing I would say is make sure you try the gun first. I'm sure you would anyway, but the stock fit is quite unusual - some love it, some hate it.

Alan,

Thanks for your feed back.
It was between the HFT 500 and the new Daystate Griffin. The $1000.00 I save on the HFT, will go towards pellets and scope and mounts.

I just put a deposit down on a HFT 500 today.

Went to my Airgun Dealer and took another look at the HFT . I looked at a couple of HFTs. They all seem to have rub marks on the left side of the forend stippling. Is this from the rifle rubbing against the box while being shipped? is there an easy fix for these rub marks?

I picked up the HFT 500 today. Brought it home. Cleaned everything up and mounted a Hawke scope. I grabbed a tin of AA fields 4.52 8.44s. Sighted in the scope and went to work.
This boring! off my shooting bench, all the pellets were going through the same hole at 15 yards. Its too windy and gusty outside so I'll have to play inside for now.
This rifle just might be more accurate than my FTP 900!

Sounds like what you wanted was a MPR-FT if you could find one.

I had considered the MPR, but as I traded in a S510 for the HFT 500, I prefer the smoothness of the side lever. I also wanted the longer cylinder for a greater shot count. Besides I still have an excuse to purchase a S400 as a rifle for friends to shoot. I try to introduce friends to fun and challenge of shooting with an air gun. I think the S400 would be perfect for that purpose.
