S400 air supply

Fri Mar 20, 2015 6:21 pm

After advise on this forum I managed to adjust the power on my S400 from 12.9 to 11.2. Mine is pre anti tamper. Unfortunately I now seem to be losing air when I charge the rifle. I normally charge to 190, this on the air bottle. I can hear air escaping from the breech area and the gauge on the rifle goes down to approximately 160 then stops escaping.

Anybody have any ideas. I thought the gauge on the rifle might be iffy and I'm over charging. Any help gratefully received.

Close your breach and tape a balloon over the muzzle of the rifle if the balloon inflates its your firing valve leaking.try the same around the fill valve.
Try a little soapy water around the air tight joints like the one between the valve body ant the air cylinder. Also soap the pressure gauge and its mounting block.
Don't forget to dry and oil the metal work after.

The gauge is held on by one allen screw. You could try tightening it ... up to a point. If it stops the leak, you would be wise to invest the 10p or so it costs to replace the o-ring that seals the assembly. Available from Julian here .... BGALTD.

If its leaking, maybe its time for a strip-down to replace all the seals.
Its not too difficult to do, just take your time but make sure you empty it of all its air first.

Thanks for the advise guys. I tried tightening the Allen screw on the manometer and 'job done'! No more leaks and the rifle gauge is reading about right.

If it doesn't hold I'll be in touch with Julian. Although he did a complete service on the rifle not so long ago.

Result 8-)

Honestly, a full set of seals costs about the same as 1st class postage. Get it and go about replacing them. If one of them is starting to go, it wont be long before a number of them do too. It is the ageing qualities of rubber ... :)
