S510 Trigger Adjustment?

Wed Apr 19, 2017 12:32 pm

The S510 doesn't have a "dry fire" mode, does it? How do you folks adjust the trigger to your liking? By actually shooting (either with or without a pellet loaded)? Do you de-pressurize the cylinder first? (I would want to be able to adjust the trigger without making noise that would disturb others.)

I'm expecting my new S510 Xtra FAC S/L Ultimate Sporter *CARBINE* in .22 tomorrow and first order of business will be to clean the barrel. Second will be to adjust the trigger. Of course it's possible that the trigger, out of the box, will be perfect, but I DO like to tinker.

Take the action out of the stock one bolt, take side plate off trigger 2 screws, lift the plate off, push top sear up, and it will appear cocked, no need to de-gas, you will see exactly how it works. Rog

Terrific! Thanks very much Roger.

Oh wait a minute... you're saying that way I will "see exactly how it works". I'm not worried about "seeing" how it works but want to actually pull the trigger to see how it feels. If I understand your reply correctly, this won't do the trick for me. Or will it? Will it allow me to fire the trigger without discharging air/pellet?

I'm waiting SO IMPATIENTLY for the new gun to arrive!

It most certainly will, by pushing the top sear up it will appear that the trigger is cocked, pull trigger and sear will drop back down as though rifle has fired. Rog

Thank you again Roger. Sorry for the stoopid :) questions. I'm sure all will become clear once I get the gun into my impatient hands.

Cheers!

I just fire it without a pellet. If in my study I put an old towel on the muzzle so the wife doesnt moan. PCP wont be damaged by a little bit of empty firing. Taking the side off will show you where you are going and get you 90% there but you really need the hammer spring pressure for final feel. it will affect apparent pull weight

I bet trigger will be heavy and with a long drag (safe) out of the box. mine was.

I'm just being impatient. I own an art gallery and picture framing company and during opening hours there's no way I could actually fire a gun here, even if it's only air without a pellet. It just wouldn't be right. So my impatience is simply that I'd like to clean the barrel and get the trigger adjusted to my liking BEFORE everyone goes home and I can actually shoot the gun. I do know that there wouldn't be any harm to the gun by firing it without a pellet (unlike with a springer).

When we're closed I often shoot here in the back shop, and have a 10-meter range (for my match pistol and rifle) as well as up to 27 meters for a little field target practice. All with a safe backstop and no danger to anyone or anything.

I'll just have to wait until we're closed in order to properly adjust the trigger. Watching the shipment tracking... might arrive tomorrow, but more likely only on Friday. SIGH

Very good video! Thank you gdavison for the link.

Peter, I have never found that Napier gun oil here in Canada and what I've always done with my triggers was to polish the sears and then use an ever so small amount of moly on the contact surfaces. How do you feel about that compared with the oil? I kinda dislike the idea of flooding the trigger mechanism with any kind of oil.
