Yes, but according to the AA website, it looks like the high power Ultimate Sporter (Xtra FAC) is *ONLY* available in rifle length and not carbine. I've been trying to get confirmation of what the Canadian dealer is actually selling, but all I keep getting is their voice mail. I don't want the 12 ft lb version because I already have that.

Too bad there is no kind of moderator at all available in Canada (very illegal).

Yes, it's only available as rifle and not carbine, if you wanted carbine it would be S510 Xtra not ultimate, and that would come with 15.5" barrel in .177 and .22, in the rifle, it can be had in .177 .22 and .25. I think we're almost there p :) Rog

You might want to check out airarms hunting SA on you tube who reviewed the US extra Fac ,and whilst the 12ft lbs version is a great rifle, the US extra has limitations on usable shot count. You will see what I mean when you see the graphs on the video.

Thanks Spike (and of course you too, Roger),

Spike, are you recommending the 12ftlbs version instead of the U/S Xtra FAC? Assuming that the info on the AirGunSource web page (the ONLY Air Arms dealer in Canada) is wrong (the site offers a U/S Xtra FAC CARBINE), I guess since I like the U/S stock and accessory rail so much, I'll have to decide between the 12ftlb version and the Xtra FAC. I've currently got a springer in .22 which gives me 12ftlbs with 18.21gr pellets, which is about 570 fps. I was hoping for more along the speed of 800 fps. If I won't give that up, guess it'll have to be the rifle in FAC. (Although I still prefer the length of the carbine. SIGH)

I've seen most of Airarmshunting SA videos and have seen the Ultimate Sporter ones. Lower shot count for that rifle doesn't really bother me, and I would probably end up shooting at about medium power anyway (as per another video I saw on the gun by someone else), and that might get me some more shots per fill.

I think since I already have a .22 with 12ftlb, the higher power would be more important to me. But the length of the rifle is scaring me... it would be about 5 inches longer than my .177 S400 MPR FT. And heck, at 1110mm it's even longer than the Weihrauch HW97KT I sold (because it was TOO big). Maybe the rifle isn't the right choice for me. Gosh this is HARD!!!

Carbine or rifle...
FAC or 12ftlb...

Darn!

Another way out is to put S510 Xtra carbine into an ultimate stock, 15 shots at 29 ft lb, not a lot of shots, but enough for a day out, most days that would be fine for me. Rog

This is probably a question that is too subjective for anyone to answer with authority, but I wonder what the difference in loudness would be between the S510 Xtra FAC RIFLE and the 12ftlb S510 CARBINE.

A longer barrel gun is quieter than a shorter one, but longer with more power (FAC)... do you think the sound level would then be comparable?

This buying decision is turning out to be one of the most difficult gun purchases I've ever made. SIGH

On one hand I would like (but probably don't need) the power of a .22 FAC, but on the other hand I prefer a carbine over a rifle. But I really do like the Ultimate Sporter stock and accessory rail. But since we cannot get moderators/silencers here in Canada, loudness of the gun is also an issue.

Okay, I just spoke to the owner of the only Canadian dealer for Air Arms to get clarification about what he lists on his website about the "S510 Xtra FAC Ultimate Sporter CARBINE" in .22....

He *DOES* have the Ultimate Sporter in Carbine and FAC. He says it's "not on the general Air Arms website" because what they produce for the export market is often different from what they offer locally. ?? In any case, he DOES have the Ultimate Sporter FAC in .22 Carbine.

When I asked him about the noise level difference between the carbine and rifle (both FAC and un-moderated) he said it was really hard to tell... that it certainly wasn't a huge or striking difference.

So it looks like I'll be ordering my gun on Tuesday (my credit card billing cycle changes on the weekend and they're closed on Monday for Good Friday). S510 Xtra FAC Ultimate Sporter Carbine in .22 caliber. And my friend (ordering at the same time) is going for the Superlite FAC Carbine. Both with Airmax 30 SF 4-16x50 scopes and Supermatch mounts.

Any last-minute advice? :)

Thanks for the suggestion about pellets. I'm going to have to order some.

But I AM surprised at your recommendation for the larger head diameter... my experience (and advice from others) would indicate that spring guns prefer slightly larger diameter pellets while PCP's like smaller ones. If you hadn't said anything I probably would have ordered 5.50 or even 5.49 if I could have found it.

The Canadian Air Arms dealer I'm buying from lists the AADF 5.52 pellets as being in stock, so I'll get some to try with my order.

Cheers!

After an incredibly long and frustrating wait, I've FINALLY got it!!!! My new Air Arms S510 Xtra FAC Ultimate Sporter CARBINE in .22. It is without question the most beautiful gun I've ever owned, and maybe even more beautiful than any I've seen. The wood (GOOD WOOD!) is amazing and the finish is silky smooth. The machining is superb! I LOVE IT!!!

I have only shot about 20 shots so far (have to wait until after work and the staff go home) but shooting a cardboard box against my normal 3/4" HARD plywood backtop from 20 yards, I was quite surprised that the pellet went CLEAR THROUGH the plywood. Amazing. I'm going to have to turn down the power for sure. Can someone confirm that there is indeed some kind of locking screw underneath the action (accessible by removing the stock)? I'd probably be very happy with power somewhere in the mid-range.

Second, I had really wanted a side-focus scope (which I'm used to from my other rifles) and put a Hawke Airmax 30 SF on this gun. Disappointment was that with the large focus ring the 10-shot magazine can't be installed/removed. So I'm back to the standard small knob there. That's my ONLY disappointment, and a minor one, so far.

Tonight after work I'll be testing a bunch of pellets and also running the gun through the chrony. Can't wait!

Looking good, take it out of the stock and you will see locking screw, don't put to much pressure on it, and I think your bipod is the wrong way round ( unless you prefer it like that ) Rog
