Quickfill/pressure gauge for HFT 500

Fri Feb 24, 2017 12:48 pm

Hi Guys. I've fitted an Aeron (ACZ) stock to my HFT 500 which makes it difficult to see the pressure gauge; the gauge also now gets in the way when carrying the gun. Because of this I'm thinking of blanking off the original and fitting a quick-fill/gauge to the end of the cylinder (often wondered why Air Arms don't do this anyway). I've seen Mark112's comments on the Altaros unit - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3521&p=27403&hilit=altaros#p27403 - and know that Robert Lane make the same sort of thing.

Has anybody got any experience of either of these units, especially on an HFT500? Anybody had any problems? Any alternatives out there?

Cheers

Alan

I have a Lane one on my (lane regulated) Ultimate Sporter .. works superb, easy to fill and read. On my US the original gauge reads the reg pressure and as I have a Tilly Hamster its not easy to read, but as its now reg pressure its a little less important

Hi,

The Altaros ones on my two regged guns have behaved perfectly and my mates regged gun also as he has one. The outer band on the Altaros one rotates to cover the probe hole and thus stop any crud entering but the Rob lane ones look to be a neater solution totally covering the probe hole. I think the RL one looks to be very much as the one fitted as standard to the Galahad rifle (and would possibly fit your HFT. Julian?).

Thanks guys. Since Robert Lane isn't going to have his quick fills in stock for a month or so, I have ordered one from Altaros. After my unsuccessful fight with my S400 I just hope I can get the existing fill valve and end cap off!

Altaros kit comes with a removal tool for the existing filler. I softened the Loctite on my rifles with boiling water poured over the filler area of the cylinder. Came off ok after that.

Just for the record, I fitted the Altaros quickfill today without any problems. I also took the standard pressure gauge and mounting off and blanked the hole with an M5 x 8mm button head bolt and a Dowty seal. I used the XTX tool to take the old fill valve off rather than the pins that came with the with the quickfill - much less risk of things slipping and causing damage.

No sign of air leaks yet, so with a bit of luck it's job done :D
