Lightweight roundhead pellets?

Tue Mar 10, 2015 11:04 am

Good morning,

At 7.33 grains, Falcon Accuracy Plus pellets seem pretty light for a domed head. Are their any lighter ones commercially available?

Thanks.

Some of the so called "Green" pellets are lighter. Usually made of a Tin or Zinc alloy.

Most do not shoot well and should certainly be tested for accuracy before using on anything live.

I realize this is an Air Arms site, but FAP pellets work extremely well in my Umarex Colt 1911. I just wondered if a lighter domed head would work better. I've tried RWS Hobby wadcutters at 7.0 grains but they don't shoot as well. I guess pistol barrels can also be pellet fussy.

watch your fpe , with some of my pistol pellets they will take you over 12fpe and light pellets can make your rifle spring very harsh and more recoil ,very high velocity dose not mean accuracy , smoothness is better,

if the pellet is to light it will leave the barrel faster and leave less back pressure in the piston chamber , so you will get more of a wack / twang as the seal hits the end of its stroke with a very low cushion of air to help slow it down,
also if the pellet is to heavy or very tight fit , this will make the piston slow down to fast .

ideally you want the pellet to just leave the barrel at the same time as the piston comes to a nice buffered stop at its stroke end.

Many thanks,

I fully appreciate that with respect to a spring driven rifle, but for a Co2 pistol delivering around 2.5 ftlbs with a 7.0 grain pellet, I don't think it will be a problem.

sorry did not notice it was a co2 , so it will not make any difference to the smoothness ,
