It's been a very long time since I bought a a scope for a rifle and there seems to be a far greater array of them now than there was. I'm going to do some long distance bench rest shooting, by long distance I mean above 50 yards but no further than about 85/90, not far for some I know but far enough for me. Now as the years have gone by, my eyes aren't anywhere as near as good as they were so I need all the help I can get! I've mainly looked at MTC and Hawke scopes among others but am after advice as to what magnification people are using for such shooting or would recommend. I have scopes with a magnification up to 14x but they're a bit old and I don't find them that good at the 60 yard plus mark. I'm looking for something with variable magnification but do I look at something at the 6-24 x 50 mark or go nuts and look at an 8-32 x 50? All suggestions welcome.

For those kind of ranges I would get a Weaver 36T, 100yds you could see ants walking round the target card, expensive but they really are the business for long range target shooting, not a lot of use for hunting though. Rog

Have a look at the Vortex range. The glass is excellent for the money with a life time guarantee .

A few months ago I bought a Hawke Sidewinder 8 - 32 x 56 and I love it.
The only downside is that I can't use the big wheel because I own a S410
and it obstructs the magazine. That said it's not that difficult to adjust
without the large wheel.
