Air Arms Owners Club

Just been told today that the fire arms officers will be visiting our club when shoots are on the test people's air guns...I think this is out of order.what are your thoughts..

your clubs insurance is probably for sub 12, if there are fac rated rifles being used, no insurance. if you were injured, where would that leave you? I am sure you would not want anyone to be put in that situation. have they received information suggesting improper use?

At least they gave you notice. Gives you time to check them. Everyone owning a rifle should have, or have access to, a chrono.

As to the Police call by .. I'd say good on them for (a) telling you early and (b) checking .. gives every member a "tick in the box" of "official approval"

I would contact someone like BASC before I agreed to let them test my guns in this way, pretty sure this sort of thing is known as fishing for offenders and apart from roadside breath testing campaigns is a no-no, they have to have a reason for wanting to test someones guns

I have never heard of anything like this before. As above a chat with BASC would be advisory

I hope they check a .22 first. All the others can run away while the pellet makes its way to the chronograph....
And if it is an oldish FAO, he could be dead by the time it comes out the other end

Thats a little concerning......if they do come across a rifle running hot are they going too prosecute or give members the opportunity so sort it before they leave the club.
Do shooting clubs have too have a club cronograph?
If not how do you guarantee that a members rifle is legal?
If a rifle is illegal and has been shot at the club how does that affect your insurance?
I would ring BASC as said above ....

I agree with the opinion that someone must have made a complaint concerning the club or a suspicion of wrong doing because normaly the police wouldn't be interested.
Now that they are interested complaining would be counterproductive and give cause for suspicion.

Just make sure every member's rifles are under the limit by contacting them and warning them of the inspection, this could turn to your advantage in demonstrating to the local constabulary what a well run law abiding club you're running.

I don't run the club but I shoot there very occasionally. Both my rifles are under 12ftlb because I own my chronograph. There are a lot of people who don't so they could get in big trouble.the club is millride arc in essington.
