Rifle Rack

Thu Nov 17, 2016 9:22 pm

Does anyone know where I might get a vertical rifle rack that will take 5 rifles from. Have tried to make my own but just don't have the woodworking skills!!!

These look pretty good, but I'm a bit worried/surprised that they're made from 18mm MDF. Nowadays a manage a wood-yard and know that MDF is not what one would call a structurally sound material at all. I have to wonder how long obe of these would last, especially as I want it to rack some of my collection of deactivated historical WWII weapons - in this case 2 .30 cal Brownings, 2 MKI Bren Guns and an MG42.

Anyone know of something similar but made with planed soft or hard wood?

I like mdf. I made loads of jigs from it. I made a dining table from mostly American oak but the top is oak veneered 25mm mdf. No need for expansion joints. it is very stable if kept dry. Wood has to be very well seasoned to beat it.

18mm mdf is good enough as long as its kept away from damp.
If you buy one make a template of it and if you want a pine one in the future at least you have a template too make your own.
