AA s400 ftlbs/fps

Sat Sep 03, 2016 2:12 pm

What ftlbs do people's s400s tend to produce?
I have a reulated s400, that with jsb diablos produces 10.7-8 ftlbs with minor variations in fps
Do you gain anything by having power upped to low 11s?
probably a daft question

If you upped the regulator to provide for low 11's, would you not lose the benefit of the regulator as an unregualted S4x0 runs in low 11's. Your shot count before drop off would be massively reduced

I plead ignorance and naivity!
my previous s400 was unregulated, had a sweet spot and a gradual decline, my new to me s400 is regulated with previously noted ftlbs, is that a normal figure?, I don't want 11.9999 ft lbs with the inherent dangers, and if 10.8 is ok for a regged s400 i'm happy, I just wasn't sure
thanks

Hi,

In answer to the question I have set up my s410's and my old S400 to shoot JSB Heavies @ about 11.5 to 11.6 ft.lbs as this is the pellet that gives the highest output from my rifles. This gives an output of around 11.2 ft.lbs with JSB Diablos. My newly regulated S410 Classis has been set up to give the same output (reg pressure is left exactly the same ... power is fine tuned with the venturi as that is what it's there for) and I am very happy with my 'massively reduced' shot count of about 140 shots all within 11 fps. :) ;) . See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3300 for info.

It is up to you if you are happy with 10.8 ft.lbs. We are only talking about 15 fps above your figures (I guess) of around 760fps. I like to get the most power from my rifles I suppose but still keep a reasonable legal safety margin.

As you will probably have no anti-tamper measures on your S400 as a result of it being regged you may be able to tweak it up slightly yourself depending on how the power was initially set. I would advise setting it with a heavy pellet though as these will produce higher power levels than the diablos.

Hope this is of some use.

Hi Mark,
thanks for the info, i'd probably take the beast to a gunsmith and get them to look it over, not sure i'm brave enough to tweak it at home!, if the gs said that it was spot on at 10.8 and accurate with minimal fps variation, and as you said a tweak would only add 20 fps and maybe raise poi i'd be happy to leave as is. I'm going to take s400 to the range on Monday and have a session and try chronoing again with different pellets and see what happens
Thanks

Hi
My s400 is shooting at 10.8fpe with air arms field pellets 8.44 grain, but jumps up to 11.5fpe with jsb heavys 10.34 grain. So be carefull when setting power. I fill mine to 170 bar and get 65 full power shots and refill at 120 bar.only 20 fps deveation fps over the 65 shots which i think is great for a unregged rifle.
Happy shooting

I'm definitely a fan of setting your power using the pellet that gives the highest power you can find - and in every case with my guns that has been a JSB Heavy, although I know some people find that Bisley Magnum or H&N Baracuda give a higher output. Like Mark, I set my guns to max at about 11.5 - 11.6 with a Heavy, which, depending on the gun, gives me about 11.0 - 11.2 (770-775 fps) with an Exact. This is plenty of muzzle velocity with no risk of going hot - so long as you keep an eye on it as most guns do creep one way or the other, especially when they are new.

I recently bought a second-hand Steyr Lg110. It was set to 11.65 (790 fps) with an 8.4gn Exact. I won't even tell you what it was with a Heavy, let's just say it got adjusted very quickly....

Hi,

Best try it with a JSB/Daystate heavy. You may find it's a wee bit hot with one of those.
