falcon menace 4-14x44 - your feelings

Sat Jul 25, 2015 11:56 am

I'm looking for a new scope for my AA S400 (low power); since I would like to have a FFP scope, the falcon menace 4-14x44 seems to be a possible choice.
I would like to hear your feelings about it, and you suggestion about this model or the more expensive 5-25x50.
Usually I shot to targets from 8 to 30 yards.
I have also a question: I read that with FFP optics could be difficult to use the AO device to evaluate distances; is this true?
thank you
Lorenzo

Mick (Zippy) will be along with his info on the 4-14 as its his fave scope. I have the bigger 5.5-25 model. The smaller scope is aimed at the hunter as it comes with an IR and lockable turrets (I think). the bigger jobby has no IR and the turrets dont lock, but after saying all that I get on fine with mine in the field. The FFP is pretty cool when your hunting too.

Thank you.
Still open the issue of distance evaluation using the side AO wheel.
Geordie, in your 5,5x25 is it possible to do that? And what is the minimum focusable distance?
Thanks

Okay,,, The Falcon Menace 4-14X44 comes in 2 different models and 3 different reticle's

Here Is the model difference's bellow.

Model 1) FFP, MIL MIL configuration is the best in my opinion specially with air rifles used for hunting, with Mil Mil configuration You turrets match the reticle.
What this means when you reticle matches the turrets,,, 2, clicks elevation or left, right would move the cross-hairs exactly one Mil, this is superb as you will always know how to adjust your scope just by looking through it and see how many mil's adjustment you need to be on target, very useful indeed wile hunting, much better advantage to the Normal MOA, with MOA scopes I find it strange that the turrets are in MOA and the reticle is in Mil so you need to do some maths and calculation's, MOA scopes like MTC and hawk are fine for FT comps were one dial's in all the ranges so holdover and under is not used, Unlike hunting one uses holdover and under mil-dots/marks more.
So MIl Mil configuration is best, and with MOA scopes your mil dots are only true on 10x or 12x on FFP scopes your mil-dots are true and usable on any magnification.

The reticles on the Falcon FFP scopes are show bellow.

The B20 reticle In my opinion is superb, this gives massive long range shooting capability's for Fun shooting, and on low mag settings Excellent hunting scope.

Falcon have just introduced a new scope to there line up, see bellow. also supplied in 56,objective, ect

A few points in regards to Falcons scopes, these scopes are not always available and seem out of stock, if you want one you may have to wait.
The other thing is if you should get a bad scope with been out of stock you also will have along wait to receive a replacement.

There has been some Falcon scopes returned recently due to dirt and debris found in the focal plane this showed up wile looking through the scope, so check your scope well to see that it's in perfect working order.

The other alternative FFP scope is Vortex optics, I find these very tempting indeed, not cheap but better great Quality, Excellent features and reticle's

I do like Falcon scopes they Offer a low priced FFP scope, the work well on air rifles, great for extreme long range pinking using high mag and the Mil dots always remain true.

thank you zippy.
I've seen some vortex scopes... very interesting, but the price is over my budget.
So, I'll look for a falcon (with IR, Mil Mil, B20); now I have to evaluate the possibility to take a 5.5-25 instead of a 4-14.
More mag will help to evaluate distances with AO side wheel, isn't it?
thank you all

I would stay clear of the large 5.5-25 scope mate, this is a tank of a scope and weighs a ton.. This has to be the most heaviest scope I have owned. I sold it to buy another 4-14x44

The 5.5-25 is no good for hunting its so heavy. and you don't need that extra weight. don't turn your rifle into an anchor. You don't need all that Magnification and the light gets darker as you mag up on the 5.5-25

Stick with The 4-14X44 is easier to handle and carry and better mag range for Air rifles. and field of view.

I received my 4-14x44 from Solware on Monday. 8-) Didn't get a chance to get it onto the rifle until Wednesday morning. It took about a dozen pellets to zero at the 15 yards I have at home. Solid construction, with great optics and turrets that the extra thick sausages I have for fingers found a joy to use. I had the scope set on 4x mag whilst zeroing and whilst the reticle (B20) appears quite small at that mag, but it's still easy enough to work with, even for a varifocal wearer. :o The scope is my first with side parallax and again I'm impressed. :D I'm off to the range on Sunday to check it out at my usual 35 yard zero and I'm really looking forward to doing so too. ;) So far the only issue I've found with this scope, is why I didn't buy one sooner.

Thanks to zippy who gave me some great feedback on his Falcons many moons ago. :D
