this is a good place to start , a full strip down to check would be the best thing to do .

56-58mm is the average so 57 is a good place to start :-).

Have been and got the original spring and have the rifle in bits,the previous owner told me he'd done a clean and polish of the hammer and rail,don't look like it to me.

Hi,

The firing pot dimension is the distance from the flat end of the pot to the face of the firing valve body (i.e the length of brass visible in my photo). Remember the pot is locked in position with a small grubscrew and a tiny (easily lost) nylon ball thingy under that that grips the firing pot's threads. This grub screw is hidden under the pressure gauge.
