50 shots with 30 fps spread

Sat May 30, 2015 5:26 pm

I would like to know whether it is possible to achieve 50 shots with 30 fps apread at 750 fps with jsb 18.13gr? Will it effect the accuracy with the decrease in fps

Yes it will effect the accuracy, that is a large spread, one of the pcp boys will be along shortly no doubt to advise further. Have you thought about a TX?, some minor fettling and <5fps is very much achievable

What gun are we talking about here?

30 fps over 50 shots with a .22 is pretty poor. I'm not sure of the exact amount of drop you will get, but it will probably alter the POI somewhat.

I didn't think a 30FPS spread over 50 shots was too bad. Given that the rifle is unregged a 30FPS power curve is reasonable for a 20/22FPE rifle.

What is the shot to shot variation ?

I only get 30 usable shots from my .22 xtra when it set to max (31ft/lbs), but using the 18 grain AA's the fps would be higher than 750. Never tried to turn it down yet. I am waiting for a Skan chrono so I can experiment ;)

For what your asking you will be running the power at just over 22.6 .You will get 35 to 40 shots

I have a Daystate Regal .22 30fpe. Average velocity is running 887 fps with 16 gr AA Fields. My velocity drop is approx. 30 fps.(with the 50 shots also)..I find that I get no shift in my POI at 50 yds until the 54th shot. I haven't tried 18 gr AAs or anything else as my Regal will consistently put 5 pellets into a 3/8" group at 40 yds with 3 or 4 pellets into a group smaller than .100".

As an aside...22lr Eley Tennex (some of the most expensive and consistent .22 ammo sold here) usually has a spread of 60 - 75 fps. Out of my Walther Match rifle, I get groups of less than an inch at 100 yds. As long as the wind behaves. I need to get the muzzle re-crowned and then the groups will shrink even further.

Hope this helps
