Today I decided for a change I would dig out the shotgun rather than one of the air rifles with the intention of decoying the pigeons that are hammering the freshly drilled spring barley in these parts. Having only picked it up on a very few occasions over the last 3 years ( due to my recently discovered hobby of annual back surgery ) I didnt have particularly high expectations. I nipped up to the field at about 11.30 and set up my hide then retired home for a spot of lunch before returning to the field about 1.30ish to set up the decoys and settling in for an afternoons sport. As it turned out I had a very enjoyable afternoon relaxing in the sun and as a bonus managed to bag 14 head of pigeon over the next couple of hours (I'm not saying how many I missed ), oddly more than half of these were ferals.
The product of my afternoons work
An enjoyable afternoon in the sun

the resident red tail hawk would be dining for a week on that fine table...one every other day would be enough but when it's being served up might as well enjoy, and he does...

Afraid so I had about 15/20 years of pretty much exclusively using shotguns, including a lot of claying, and only using a norica .22 break barrel for vermin around the farm yard. I only got seriously back in to airguns 2 years ago when I did up an early airsporter whilst recuperating from surgery. One thing led to another hence trading in the airsporter for an s410 followed by adding an r10 to the stable. It says a lot about how much fun air rifles can be that its taken so long for the inclination to pick up the "good old" 12bore again
