Getting to love the cz rimmie!

Wed Oct 28, 2015 7:06 pm

It's got to that time of year again (GMT and all that) where the nights are drawing in, the weathers doing the same and all in all things start to look a little bleak  as ever though every cloud has a silver lining and in my case this comes in the form of an hours darkness before the wife gets in from work :D In other words an hours lamping time without fear of an ear bashing for being nasty to the "poor little bunnie rabbits" As it so happened this meant my shiney new cz 455 got its first taste of the lamp and I think it likes it! One hour, five bunnies all from the comfort of my my truck :D

Nice tidy little bag of healthy rabbits there James. I take it your 455 is 22lr and not a hummer!! Handy now with the clocks having gone back. I have the same intention on a more local permission of going up and whacking a few before the wife gets in from work. ;)

Thanks chaps, I think this is probably the start of a long and meaningful relationship with this rifle ( yes it is a .22 and I'm already starting to go to it over the hmr 9 times out of ten) :)

Yup the 22lr is the best tool in any shooters cabinet. If i'm shooting for the pot its my go to rifle over the hummer and always will be James. Don't know if you've tried them but if you can, try a box of RWS subs through your rifle. Probably one of the most accurate subs out there through the majority of rifles. Enjoy ;)

Ebo & Pat, at the moment I'm using 40grain Winchester subs. When I first posted about my new toy it was recommended by someone one here that I should try RWS and Lapua as well (I have a feeling it could have been either of you or failing that katzenjammer, apologies for the premature senior moment :( ) The local RFD doesn't stock Lapua and the Winnie's were good enough for me to purchase my allowance of rounds, when I've used a few up I will certainly give the RWS a shot I just can't see them beating the Winnie's at least until I up my game a bit (I'm definitely the limiting factor at the moment rather than the gun or ammo  )

Gets a hold of you doesn't it once you've used a .22 rimmie :D Such a versatile little round and plenty of punch for the type of pests we normally encounter. Lapua are like the proverbial rocking horse end product. It has mainly been target shooters who have recommended them so they may get their (solid nosed) supplies via their clubs.

Glad you enjoying it James ;)

What never ceases to amaze me is how cheaply you can get a rig. Mine was £120 or something with a decent old Nikko Stirling Bentley scope. OK I've since got a different scope, renovated the stock myself, had the barrel shortened and added some other goodies but the initial outlay was peanuts compared to the cost of a good PCP and brought more range and punch for a fraction of the cost. And don't forget the very low velocity and the high velocity rounds as well as the normal subsonics. All these expand the rifles application.

If your land is cleared for such use and you are in a position to be granted a FAC I do encourage shooters to move to the next level.
