25 Minute Bunny.

Thu Oct 01, 2015 8:00 pm

Got home from a trip to Machynlleth with work, lovely day out on trains and watching the RAF blow dry the valley with a couple of Typhoons, had some tea, walked the dog, got bored looking at the TV.

So, at 19.25 I put the rifle in the car with the Photon XT on it and drive to my nearest permission which is 5 minutes away, I would have walked but some of my neighbours get spooked by the gun bag.
By 19.35 I'm in the field and switch the Photon on, didn't even need the illuminator on and I could see a bunny about 55 yards away. So I sneak forward about 10 to 12 yards and take aim using a short shooting stick, let the pellet go and SMACK, straight head shot, bunny down with just a twitch. Walked to pick her up and counted 43 paces. The pellet had hit just behind the right eye. ' Not bad' I thought.

Then Mr Knobhead enters the other end of the field walking his dogs with a torch, 'why?' I ask myself, but never mind, pick up said bunny with the consolation that it no longer has to be scared of the dogs, so I saved it a lifetime of worry didn't I ?

Back to the car and home by 19.50. It's a new record for me!

First kill with the TDR too, quite an effective little tool.

Cracking shot with the TDR, i love mine too but have yet to try it with the photon (not XT).
Won't your TDR fit in the back-pack with the photon fitted ?, like i say i have not tried mine on it yet.
Just wondered , whats with the de-ja vue :D

Darren, bloody Kinfle Dire tablet copied and pasted somehow, corrected now.

No, the TDR won't fit the case with a Photon fitted, I use a large hard case.

If you do mount an XT take my advice and buy some Sports Match fully adjustable mounts, they give the right height for the mag and you can really get true zero with judicious use of a couple of Allen keys, otherwise the Photon can be a bitch to zero, I previously had it on Hawke mounts and was having to shim them by nearly 2 mm, not good enough as you will agree.

Ha ha blame the Kindle . Shame about the XT on the TDr with the case , would have been less suspicious with your neighbours.
I was looking at the adjustable mounts on Teds Holdover the other night as they look a good bit of kit, i too had to shim my photon
as i was only getting half the image and turn one around to keep it straight, false economy buying cheap mounts, and i am a tight person.
To ensure i had shimed mine the right amount i fitted a bore lazer first (before taking off my summer scope) and then set the photon up to that,
It was then i realised my mounts were not true as the lazer dot moved left to right depending on how close or far certan targets were.
I zeroed at 36 yards and at 20 yards the poi was nearly 1/2 " off, this was about the same the other way at 45 yards, changed one mount around and it was bang on
from 10 yards all the way out to 55 yards, just a slight change in elevation which is normal.
Next time i am allowed to visit the gun shop i may get a hands on with the adjustable mounts and maybe buy a pair.

They are very well designed and engineered. I think mine were around £65.00, Ronnie Sunshines if memory serves.

Good for you Brooksy and happy to see that you are not joining the idiotic "no problem shooting rabbits at 50 yards brigade", nice little story.
Keep it up and as always, safe shooting.
