Mono-pod shooting stick

Fri Feb 20, 2015 7:49 pm

A few of the permissions i go to i have found it dificult to either shoot off the bipod or sticks and with little to rest on and not wanting to shoot free hand i decided to make a mono-pod.
I had an old camera mono-pod in the shed collecting dust, and after attacking it with a hacksaw it still was not right. So after tydying up the fishing gear i found a pole rest in the bottom of the spares bag ,
It was a good snug fit on the HW100 (and the TDR) , so the camera mount was removed from the pole and a slug of alloy was machined up in the lathe and drilled and taped for the correct thread, 3/8th whitworth
i think. I also had to file a couple of grooves in the slug to keep it tight. Once it was fitted and a grub screw fitted in to keep it all in place the foam grip was slid up and the fishing rest screwed into place.
I then took it outside and placed the HW on it and WOW! it felt good and sturdy, it also was snug enough to hold it there whilst the height was adjusted , next step a trip out to give it some (sorry) stick.

I have used it several times now with success , it is so easy to use,
and with it been a mono-pod i can bank it over for fast target aquisition.
No more slipping off the stock .
