pellet restock time

Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:26 am

Well, I'm out of my old stock of pellets and have to find some more. I ordered some AA Fields in 4.51 die #10 and 4.52 die #44. My last pellets were 4.51's and were good in the 3 guns I have scoped. The supplier was out of Exacts so I will need to get some of them to test as well. All 3 TX's preferred the 4.52's, which seemed odd. One gun was pretty much equal at 25m with both pellets, but was slightly better at 50m with the 4.52's. One gun was much better at both distances with 4.52's and it was obvious. Now comes gun 3 and it shoots a very tight group at 25m with the die 10 4.51's and just a little less good with the other pellets. I moved out to 50m and the 4.51's wouldn't even shoot what I could call a group, but the 4.52 pellets grouped very well. I have to go with the less accurate, at 25m, 4.52 pellets on this gun, but I really will have to try another pellet die to make sure I don't miss this guns favorite pellet. I had this once before with an early MarkI #00321. It would absolutely one hole at 25m with H&N FTS pellets and just inside .5" with JSB Exacts. At 50m the Exacts were shooting groups of around 1" and the H&N's were close to 2". The joys of airgun shooting.

Same issues here.
With my new full length action my old stock of Air Arm's Fields suddenly weren't that great.
Spent a few hours at an indoor range today and came home with a sleeve of JSB die 54's. They seemed very good in both my TX200 and girlfriends S400. They had potential for 1/2 inch at 45 yards but I wasn't really on form today. Best I managed was about 3/4 inch but I'm positive this was down to me.

Just out of interest how many pellets will you order. I only use my guns for hunting and "playing" in the garden so do i dont think I will use as many as some on here. I usually get 10x500 tins of AAfield 5.51 every 12 to 15 months mayber even 18 months as I dont keep a record and just buy them as I need them. I have tried different pellets even the AA field 5.52 but the grouping is nowhere near as good as the 5.51s. How can 0.01 size difference make such a difference in the grouping?

I think 24 tins should do me for a couple of years. I used to go through 15-20 tins a year, by I've slowed a bit.
