Hi
Few days back I found my sub 12 fpe TX 200 MKIII making a lot noise during discharge with fair bit of recoil, though it has a tbt kit. Now reading some of the reviews of TXs from UK being so tamed & quiet thought of doing some modification. Got suggestion from a fellow member to insert a brass sleeve, as his friend’s TX was behaving similarly despite installing a tbt kit & after inserting a sleeve it got sorted.
I inserted a 45mm by 95mm brass sheet nicely polished & buffed with decent amount of moly coating. Now I could hear a scrapping sound while cocking with increased cocking effort, though velocity has increased by 20 fps from 766 to 786 with only 11fps spread for 10 shots, with reduced muzzle report & the best part was its sight picture retention.
Should I be worried about that scrapping noise, or shall I let it bed in?
Regards Moulindu

Re: Piston sleeve
I suspect the scraping is because the fit between the spring and the piston was already pretty close. The purpose of the tophat is to keep the spring centered in the piston. If the tolerance is too close on your brass sheet the scraping may continue indefinitely. It shouldn't hurt anything, though. Brass is much softer than steel.
I do suggest polishing both ends of the spring then putting a touch of lube on them. This helps reduce twang and torque.

Re: Piston sleeve
Remember springs get slightly fatter on compression.

Re: Piston sleeve
Thanks for the info!
Is there clearance to a sleeve using the original mainspring on a TX200?
