TX200HC silencer

Thu Jan 19, 2017 5:37 pm

Does the TX200HC benefit from a silencer i.e. Does it make a noticeable difference to the sound?
If so,what is the way to go:-
a) an Air Arms own brand
Or
b) an adapter and an HW or similar third party silencer
Either of the above are going to cost between £50/60 and I wonder if it will be worth the outlay.
The TX is going to be used for hunting
Thank you

Don't know much about TX with or without mod, but my HW95 .177 is bloody loud without one. Rog

Hi Mark
Welcome to the Forum

Most of the noise comes from the action and is transferred through the stock to your right "lughole"
Let someone else shoot it while you are standing 15 or 20 yards away, and see what you think ;)
Also, don't forget, you will be adding extra length to the rifle, which really defeats the object of buying a HC :o

Tried the AA moderator on my TX200 HC some years ago (to passify the neighbours) and it made a little difference, but I didn't think it was enough to warrant the £40 outlay, and as GrandadG has said, it defeats the point of a carbine. If you want a relatively quiet AA springer, the ProSport is worth a look IMO. The ProSport doesn't upset the neighbours!

What he said... but, a wee bit of weight on the end of the HC barrel will reduce muzzle flip ;)

Thank you all for your your advice and replies. I think I will try to get to hear a TX with and without a silencer.
Thank you once again.

My 177 tx usually wears a hw silencer , it works well and is very effective at dampening down the higher frequencies. The noise from the action should me minimal if it's correctly set up.
