Stock care

I've recently acquired a walnut-stocked Pro Sport and want to look after the stock as best I can. It looks as though the stock as a hard finish on it (polyurethane or something), doesn't look like it's just oiled to my untutored and ageing eyes anyway! What is the consensus on what's best to use please?
