AA s410 TDR & Webley Accupump

Mon May 08, 2017 6:01 pm

Got my new s410 TDR yesterday, had a shooting day today, all working fine. But, I've got a query about the pump though, (Webley Accupump foot stirrup)...

The TDR turned up with about 100bar in the cylinder (I checked the date on the cylinder and it states 03 /2017 so i assume its a new cylinder as its a new rifle, from Pellpax, and I wanted to make sure it hadn't been sitting on their shelf for years, but it looks like its only a couple of months old, since manufacture).

I topped up the pressure a couple of times now using the pump and from 100 to 155 (ish) its fine and does not take long, a couple of minutes only, but I can't seem to get it much past 155bar? The resistance does not seem to get any worse either, I thought as you got to higher pressues the pump would get much harder to pump, but it seems to get some resistance to 155 then it just stays the same.

I have tried leaving the rifle afte pumping to 155 and waiting to see if the presuure drops, it does not, even overnight it did not drop. I can't hear or feel any leaks from any of the obvious places, eg: hose, connectors, breach, etc.

Do i need to wait for the cylinder to cool down for a couple of minutes, then try again. Or am i just underestimating how much pumping is required to get to those higher pressures? I seem to be getting about 30 shots from 150 to 100 bar, so i assume from 190 to 100 would be about 60 shots?

Lastly, when i attached the adaptor (supplied with the Accupump) to allow the pump to attach to the guns filling connector, I di not use a washer, just replaced the quick fill valve with another adaptor that allows the Air Arms T type adaptor to screw into the pumps hose, did it up tight with spanners, but no washer, none of the washers in the supplied little bag looked like they would fit, so I assumed it did not need one, and as I say, no air leaks, no hissing, can't feel any air blowing out, and it gets to 150 ish ok. so i assume the adaptor and connector are ok?

What do you think?

hi peter , pumping my r 10 up to 232 bar was hard work .
I found it was hard to make the pressure go up the more
bars you need .
( get a bottle ) well worth it .

just to check your pump is working properly, fit a blank on the fitting end and then pump away and see what pressure you can get out of it.
I have best fittings on my Hills pump and although hard i can charge up to 230bar, took me ages but i did a R10 once then got a cylinder.

Aha, now sorted, two things, I think a nut (on the pump) had loosened slightly, checked them all again today, and I had underestimated how much effort it would take to pump the required pressure.

I now know it takes 300 - 320 pumps (counting every up stroke as one pump, and every down stroke as one pump) to get from 100bar to 190 bar. And it takes about 100 - 120 pumps to get from 100bar to 150bar, so getting the extra 40bar takes another 200 pumps!

At least I now know the pump is working ok. I also know it takes about 10 minutes pumping, stopping every couple of minutes to catch my breath and to allow the pump to cool down. This is reasonable slow, steady and even pumping, making sure I stop at every up and down stroke and making sure I do a full and proper puump on each stroke. I found pumping too quick just produces a lot of heat.

Happy, but knackered..... 8-)
