Don't think Rowan do sears, but if they did I doubt very much that they would break, sounds like a bad batch to me, pretty sure A/A will be on top of it soon. Rog

The answer to all your questions is I don't know to be honest.
It doesn't seem like cheap metal their quite heavy for how small they are.
Maybe the slot allows lub to get to the pin?

Maybe they are designed too break as a safety feature when the cocking lever slips from the hand.
If the sear didnt break what other damage could occur as a result of losing control of the cocking lever.

A magnet would tell if they are steel (while you have the broken bits in your hand) I wouldnt try a magnet on good sears in case they get magnetised!

Can you imagine if they were designed to break, it would mean that every time that you cocked your gun it could go off at anytime, I wouldn't call that a safety feature, this is just an accident waiting to happen, come on A/A get your act together. Rog

Leaving a gap in the side of the hole suggests CNC laser cutting including the hole. If it was me I would laser cut the outside then drill the hole. With a drill (call me old fashioned!) Pesumably they are then heat treated and some finish up brittle.

It's definitely steel as I lifted the first broken piece with a magnetic screwdriver

Its the same design they have used for years. It sounds like something has happened to the heat treating.

Or somebody turned the laser up too high and ruined the tempering. Maybe an attempt to increase production to meet demand whilst negating the need for an extra shift/employee?
