Cocking bolt left to right

Wed Jul 27, 2016 7:20 am

Hi, just got a 400 action with a left handed bolt but want to make it a right hander. Is it just a case of getting a right handed bolt or does the cocking bar/pin have to be adjusted ? Thanks

If you look at this diagram http://www.bisley-uk.com/product_v3.php ... 00ST&c=184 (printable version) you will see item 26 is a handing pin that will need to be moved to the other side. I've never done it though.

Hi,

If it has anti-tamper fitted then your first job is to get rid of that. Its then a case of getting at the pin S425 in the striker block and moving it to it's other position (obvious when you see it). So barrel and bolt housing off (don't loose transfer port tiny O-ring) and then remove the entire trigger block/striker body (large Allen bolt in the end). While the hammer rail is exposed give it a good polish with brasso or autosol to make it nice and smooth and make sure the hammer bearings are very clean. This should help shot to shot consistency but chrono it afterwards just to make sure all is legal. Bolt wise I believe the parts are Loctited together so you should basically be able to un-Loctite them (heat apparently is the solution although I haven't tried myself) and reassemble/Loctite as a right hand one.

Mark

Edit:- The pin is the silver one visible in this picture:-

Move the pin to the hole the other side. You may need pliers to do this.
