pressure gauge

Has anyone removed the manometer dog leg and successfully blanked off the hole?

It seems that the manometer and its assembly is a weak point in the design of the S400 judging from posts here and elsewhere.
I recently polished the hammer and rail which improved the performance of the gun but on refilling had a leak around the base of the dog leg ( I now know I need not have emptied the cylinder).
Changed the o-ring with the nearest equivalent from my box of o-rings, on reassembly stopped the leak but the gauge didn't register any pressure. Thinking that the slightly fatter replacement was restricting the airflow to the gauge I bought the correct size 0-ring, on refiling, the gauge slowly went up to just below 200 in accordance with the gauge on my bottle (190), but has not budged from that reading after 30 or more pellets have been fired.
