HFT 500 Query

Tue Apr 26, 2016 6:01 pm

Following a disastrous performance at the nationals the weekend I decided to strip the HFT and see why its only giving 9ft lbs.

First I noticed the transfer port seal was split so there's one problem I can sort easily enough. However, whilst stripping it down I noticed the firing pot was at an angle. On closer inspection I saw the pot was split away at a seam, thus the angle. Additionally the nylock ball was rolling around in the action with the grub screw no-where near the thread. Shocking QC from Air Arms on this one. Question is, this split in the firing pot, I managed to push it back together as a friction fit but will this be a problem. I tried getting air in but its just hissing out of the barrel (cocked). Where can I get a replacement from and are they the same as the 510?

Julian Bond in the sales section will have them.
If you have a genuine problem I would give Air Arms a ring. Make a note of the serial number for when they ask.

Thanks BBF, the issue was poor QC for sure. I was the one who removed the AT so it had to be factory caused. I hear you can seal the pot with superglue too which might work until a replacement arrives. I have contacted UK Neil to see if he has any transfer port seals with the washer, I hear they are reliable aftermarket mods.

Thanks Martyn. Seals changed and pot re-glued, just wont take any air still. Seeping out of the barrel.

Sometimes they need a really good blast to get the firing valve to seal, you probably need at least 50 bar to seal it, and yes it will vent out of the barrel until it does. If that doesn't work take the firing valve out and use a cotton bud down the hole to clean it, could be bit of muck stopping it from sealing, when you put firing valve back screw pot back in the measurement is about 57mm from firing valve body to end of pot, good luck Rog

As above. You can also clean the valve with some toothpaste :o 8-)
Make sure everything is clean when you put it together.
